Proving that Sweden can produce so much better than Eurovision winners, it's The Backyard Babies, a band who were born to rock your world! Unfortunately they were born to rock on a bigger stage than the Cathouse has to offer as they aren't the tallest guys in the world so you can't see them behind the solid pit that's formed. On politely edging my way to the front of the pit I find out that what they lack in height they make up for in sheer enthusiasm and rock'n'roll excesses. Dregen is a frenzy of guitar poses and rolling on the floor, Johan strikes a series of cool poses, Nicke is all, "Hey, Glasgow! Are you doing alright?" and Peder plays the drums sporting the biggest sideburns in rock. Of course all this rock'n'roll mayhem can also be witnessed, minus the sweating bodies, from standing on the seats nearer the bar, with a glass in each hand. They play quite a few new songs, which I have to say didn't move me as much as the older material, I fear they may have ventured back into more metal territory. Not to worry though as they also play 'Highlights', 'Bombed', 'Babylon' and 'Look At You'. "Glasgow, do you wanna hear one more? I said do you wanna hear one more?" Goddam rock'n'roll, baby! |
