The previous four bands tonight, although fine bands in their own right I'm sure, just weren't my thing so I'm even more pleased than normal to see The Day I Snapped taking to the stage after not having seen them for absolutely ages. OK, so they're the most reviewed band on Zelda's World to date but it's not just because of the amount of Glasgow shows that they play; it's also the sheer quality. And they don't disappoint, in fact they seem even better than I remember. First song is a new one that is fast and sounds really good and is followed by the very cool 'Jennifer 8' and my early favourite 'Unwound'. To match the speed and intensity of the songs the guys also give it their all and would appear to enjoy it as much as us. Drummer and bassist, Craig and T-Bone respectively, mouth along to every song pulling manic faces and Craig even sings some backing melodies. Richie adds the occasional jump and doesn't even turn away as usual when I try to take his picture, in stark contrast to T-Bone who always makes a beeline for the camera. Singer Alan swirls around between singing, eyes permanently shut, and dripping sweat. The sound in The Cathouse is spot on and blasts right through you, especially on songs like 'Glasseye', which is amazingly fast and furious and is perfectly contrasted by playing straight into the touching 'Everlast'. These two songs being at the extreme ends of The Day I Snapped sound, which expertly varies from frenzied to a more quiet, emotional style of punk rock. Before finishing with 'Where Do We Go From Here?' another new song is played that is well rocking and has a drum part guaranteed to burst your eardrums. |
