Not really knowing what to expect from The Peoples Alibi, I was pleasantly surprised to find that by second song 'Authority' I was already tapping my steel-capped toes and enjoying the chanted appeal of the "You! You! You! You!" refrain. They may not be as fast as most in today's punk market but then again they're not as contrived either. 'New Militia' is a song about "not taking any shit and standing up for yourself" and gives singer/guitarist Tommy a chance to leave down his guitar and bound around the stage to the effective thumping bass and drums that perfectly emphasise the "hey"s of the chorus. There's definitely more of an old school style to their songs as is evident in the excellent chanted choruses, haunting lead guitar sound, attitude of their lyrics and snarly delivery but in no way does it sound dated as there seem to be many influences mixing to give a fresh, individual sound. Before playing 'Reason 2 Believe' Tommy says it's "another song about not taking any shit, we have a few", and this one in particular works really well with its dual vocals and more well placed "hey"s. Not taking any shit doesn't always sound quite as uplifting and enjoyable as it does in these songs tonight.
