The Day I Snapped again? I think I might be sick of the sight of them by now if they were just any old pop/punk/emo Glasgow band. But luckily for us, they aren't just any old band. They now seem to have gelled together again into a solid, all round rockin' band after the line up changes since their first blistering gig in Tuts last May. And now that I know a few of their songs (off by heart!) I like them more every time I see them. After 'I Could Try...' and 'Jennifer 8' they play a new and as yet unnamed song, asking for title suggestions. Richie and Craig jointly volunteer part of the 'Chewin the Fat' sketch about 'n' and it's not fish 'n' chips! I suggest "Spare Batteries" as I suddenly realise that I don't have any and need them for my camera, hence the lack of pictures this time round. Alan also offers to buy a beer for the first person that jumps around. Tempted as I am, I just manage to contain myself, but soon there's a couple of guys jumping and I don't think it's just for the beer either. Technically, this is actually a bit of an off night for the band as there are a few mistakes but it just doesn't matter because of their cool attitude and the sheer quality of their songs. A fact that seems evident by the large crowd that has gathered to watch a mere support band.

Headlining tonight is New Jersey band Midtown, who strangely begin by playing the intro to a Guns'n'Roses song before their own 'Just Rock and Roll'. This is the first time the band has played in Glasgow and they seem to have quite a solid following who know every word to every song and sing along whilst waving their arms about. The set consists mainly of their 'Save the world, Lose the girl' album that seems to contain lots of fast songs with dual vocals on the choruses, which gives an uplifting, energetic sound. It must be a New Jersey thing that makes them play a bit of Bon Jovi, before telling us that they 'don't play that shit!' The band is very polished and probably sounds exactly the same on record. There's a little chat between songs and they seem like an amiable bunch of guys. The guitarist that looks like Dave Grohl is actually called Heath and it's his birthday. According to them, in America it's you that sings on your birthday. So Heath plays us a song and it sure beats the labouring 'Happy Birthday to you...'. They manage to play one slowish song but it still has their trademark upbeat feel and with three singers it makes too powerful a sound to be a ballad. Despite their claims at rock'n'roll they're just too slick and, well, nice to be a real sleazy, greasy R&R band but as far as poppy, rock anthems go they do pretty well. They say they have 'no more songs' and leave off with their rendition of 'God gave Rock'n'Roll to ya'. Is it just me, or was anybody else expecting Bill and Ted?
